The Department of Political Science has been an integral part of Panchur College since the inception of the college in 2008. The department has catered to various needs of students interested in learning the intricacies of politics and political theory. Courses in the department range from the study of Indian as well as Western Political Thought to an in depth understanding of the niceties of various constitutions of modern democracies (with an emphasis on the Constitution and Politics of India), the intriguing subject of International Relations, the legalities of International Law, Modern Public Administration, and Research Methodologies etc. The department not only attempts to inculcate an understanding of the workings of a democratic government to its students, but also encourages in them the positive qualities of a modern world citizen.
During recent years, with the advent of the CCF courses introduced by the University of Calcutta (CU), the Political Science department has also focussed on CVAC courses that offer a deep insight into the Constitution of India, and has also been actively involved in teaching students Indian Law (through various SEC papers). The department also has its own Electoral Literacy Club that involves both the teachers and students, which encourage students to actively participate in debates, quizzes and various other competitions pertaining to politics and political science. The department has also had a history of participating in the State Level Youth Parliament competition.
In a nutshell, the Political Science Department of Panchur College ensures the holistic development of its students and takes utmost care by counselling students so that they develop the interest in appearing for various Central and State level competitive examinations. Alumni from this department are at present involved in higher studies, are pursuing studies in Law, have cleared the NET and SET examinations, are teaching in primary and secondary schools and are actively preparing themselves for Central and State Civil Services Examinations.
